What is a towable boom lift used for?

When flexibility, weight, and affordability are your main concerns, towable boom lifts make for a great choice. Compared to similar models, they are more affordable for small businesses or users completing home DIY projects. Towable boom lifts are an ideal choice for painting houses and performing contract work at several locations. Because manufacturers design them for easy towing, these lifts are convenient for people or companies that frequently move between worksites or short-term projects (think utility work, lighting replacement, sports stadium maintenance, gymnasium management, and warehouse inventory management).

What are the standard towable boom lift sizes?

When searching for a towable boom lift for sale, you will likely see the platform height and working height listed separately. The platform height is the distance from the ground to the bucket when fully extended. However, you should choose a lift based on the farthest distance you need to reach for your project, taking the working height into account. Towable boom lifts typically have a vertical reach of 34 to 62 feet and a horizontal outreach of 16 to 49 feet. Their lift capacity ranges from 440 pounds to 500 pounds. The minimum weight of towable boom lifts typically ranges from around 2,630 pounds to 7,700 pounds.

What are the key advantages of using a towable boom lift?

The most significant advantage of a towable boom lift is its flexibility. It can reach significant heights while remaining compact. Because standard pickups can transport them, towable boom lifts are useful in a variety of settings. Compared with similarly sized machines, these lifts are both cost-effective and suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Towable boom lifts are lighter than their counterparts, making them gentler on surfaces like pavement, turf, or gym floors that are prone to damage. In addition to their portability and lightweight design, these lifts can reach a range of angles thanks to their articulating booms. Their many uses have led construction workers to describe towable boom lifts as among the most versatile pieces of construction equipment.

What's the difference between a towable boom lift and a scissor lift?

Scissor lifts are designed only for vertical movement. This allows them to carry extra weight while maintaining stability. Scissor lifts sit directly below the workspace. If an obstruction is present, a scissor lift won't be able to maneuver around it. However, due to their articulating booms, towable boom lifts excel at reaching the same space from multiple angles. You can maneuver them underneath overhangs and around corners. Choosing a towable boom lift over a scissor lift provides greater flexibility when targeting the same space from multiple angles.

Are there other names for a towable boom lift?

While towable boom lifts are named after their towing ability, they also have several other common names. When searching for towable boom lifts for sale, the equipment descriptions might include "lift trailer" or "bucket lift." A manufacturer or authorized dealer might also describe a towable lift for sale as a tow-behind boom lift, a boom trailer, or a mounted boom lift. Additional descriptors include mobile aerial work platforms, trailer-mounted boom lifts, and tow-behind cherry pickers.
